Nano - Day 27

Another good day. I've started pulling down nearly 3K a day now. I don't think there's much doubt that I'll cross the finish line with the necessary goods. It's not 12:30 AM yet. I still have several more hours to work before calling it quits for the day. With only 5K more needed, I can spit to the finish line from here. That takes most of the pressure away, so I can concentrate on improving the novel during these last few days. I'm still working on Chapter 13 which has grown to a massive 9200 words, and I'm still not finished. Obviously, the chapter should be broken up into three or more pieces, and perhaps I'll do just that and post the results, although I really wanted to include another episode continuing the Moses thread first.
Oh, well. Victoria Lockesley (Vadoma Lasaci) has become a major character, even larger than Fischer, so the present version is unbalanced in the extreme. How I'll reach a compromise, by cutting back on Victoria, or expanding the others, is something I'll worry about later. Right now, Victoria has been telling me her story, and I'll continue to write it all down until she's finished. It's undisciplined writing, of course, but that's what Nano should be, following your creativity wherever it leads. There's plenty of time for good housekeeping later. Never get off a galloping horse has always been good advice.

Date: 2006-11-28 01:44 am (UTC)The novel needs a lot of work before it even reaches draft level; it certainly won't be finished, as a completed story, by month's end, although I'll probably breach the 50K barrier by the 30th as required. I'll probably finish it afterward since I have an ending in mind. The chapters will be posted in my journal for friends to read.
There aren't any easy answers to publishing a book. First, it has to be written. If you're interested in writing, join some of the online literary groups and do some of the exercises and challenges. NaNoWriMo is a good way to get started. Think about doing it next year.
Once a book is finished, it can be submitted to agents who will try to find a publisher. A writer can contact publishers directly, of course, but employing an agent is the best method, by far.
Unless you're considering self-publishing, publication doesn't cost the author anything besides his hard work. The idea is that they pay you.
